June 2019 – Drexel L. Smith joint Rotary’s ‘Rotaplast’ Team Arusha ‘19 composed of 15 Medical and 9 Non-Medical Volunteer Team members with a mission of eliminating/and or minimizing the burden of cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities. Over two weeks the team performed over 90 surgical procedures on 61 patients that were life changing. Smith’s role was to photo document all patients before during and post surgical procedures, and document the teams work during the two week mission. Over the two weeks Smith created a daily blog of the teams activities, authored stories on several patients and created a final PowerPoint presentation at the end for use by Team members to assist in telling the story to community & service groups supporting donations for future missions.
